Growing up in East London in the Eastern Cape, Abigail Munsami was keenly aware of how many South Africans live without real access to legal knowledge, protection or a clear understanding of their rights. That early exposure shaped a lifelong commitment: to use the law as a practical tool for fairness, dignity and opportunity. One month after finishing matric, and following the liquidation of the company her father worked for, Abigail began cold-calling more than 20 retail stores in her area looking for work. That persistence led to a role as a Foschini sales assistant, which enabled her to begin studying her LLB one module at a time, the only option she could afford. She later gained hands-on experience across all divisions of the Magistrates’ Court in Standerton, becoming well versed in the practical workings of the lower courts and the needs of ordinary SA's, before joining the Constitutional Court in 2008, where she worked alongside Chief Justices Ngcobo and Zondo. This formative experience sharpened her strengths in legal interpretation, governance and policy analysis. Abigail continued funding her own studies and went on to complete her Masters of Law degree (LLM).
Abigail later joined the private sector and built a distinguished career in financial services, holding senior leadership roles including Senior Manager: Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy at PSG Financial Services and Head of Legal, Compliance & Risk at GrowthHouse. She managed the regulatory affairs and policy engagement division, advised boards and executives, and established compliance and risk frameworks from the ground up, successfully managing FSCA engagements and inspections. Her expertise spans the entire regulatory landscape governing financial institutions including, FAIS, COFI, the Omni-Risk Return, FICA, POPIA, governance and enterprise risk frameworks, and the evolving regulatory obligations facing financial institutions as well as cross-sector SMEs and cross sector regulatory frameworks.
Today, as the Founder of Truenorth Legal and Tech Consulting, Abigail advises established FSPs, SMEs and individuals, translating complex legal and regulatory developments into clear, practical and business-aligned solutions. An admitted Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, FAIS-approved Compliance Officer and Family law mediator Abigail is known for combining deep technical expertise with empathy and clarity, Abigail bridges the gap between the corporate boardroom and everyday South Africans.
